J.Schell tenor in C at A= 415 Hz and A= 440Hz

Johann Schell (1660-1732), of Nuremberg, was first documented as a “flute maker” in 1693. He received his master’s rights together with J.C. Denner in 1697. .

In 1713, he obtained the right to mark his instruments only with the first letter of his Surname, an ‘S’. By law, this was the prerogative only of the elite Nuremberg instrument-makers such as Denner and Oberlender.

The instrument we make at 415 and 440  is a copy of the beautiful tenor recorder, originally at A = 415 Hz, formerly belonging to Alessandro and Benedetto Marcello, currently preserved at the Museo degli Strumenti Musicali, in Rome, of which we have carried out the restoration.
