Peter Bressan ( Bourg-en-Bresse 27 May 1663; d Tournai 21 Aprii 1731)
Born Pierre Jaillard, apprentice to Jean Boissier, turner in Bourg-en Bresse; subsequent training in Paris; 1688 arrived in London and established there as maker, adopting “Bressan’ as name and mark.
Quoted in Talbot’s manuscript as authority for tenor and bass recorder, flute, oboe and tenor oboe. The leading London recorder maker of his time, his bass recorder’s hollow foot (a feature shared by his senior Hotteterre and his contemporary Rippert), suggest a Parisian background; some of his alto recorders have two or three holes double
